Why Fabric Preparation Matters

FAQ Fabric Preparation:

Q: Should I wash fabrics before making a quilt?

A:  Absolutely. I am a huge proponent of washing all fabrics in your quilt. I highly recommend that you wash your fabric first before putting all the time and effort into making a fused applique quilt.

Why? Read all about it below. Watch my FaceBook Live video about fabric preparation for more detailed information and to see it with bleeding problems with your own eyes!

Running out of elastic, and still making masks for family and friends...

I promised myself I was not going to get sucked in to the MASK MAKING YOUTUBE VIDEO FRENZY!  Every designer and her brother has put out their own YouTube video about making the perfect mask...and I have wasted enough time watching them that I could have made a hundred more masks!

Getting Ready to a Get-Away or Retreat

Guild retreats can be loads of fun. They are a great way to get to know quilters in your guild, or go with a group of strangers and meet a new friend or two.

Retreat etiquette:

Not everyone likes to sew to music, so if you bring your own music, please use headphones.

If you need to make a personal call, there should be a lobby or other private place to take or make a call.

Do you belong to a Quilt Guild? Your quilting community part 1

Christmas in July

Quilting, creating, even running a quilt related business can be very isolating.  We set aside  "me time"  to work on our creations,, but that time is often spent alone in our sewing rooms, with only our sewing machines for company.  With this tendency to hibernate in our sewing rooms, many of us crave a quilting community where we can join with other quilters who like to do the things we like to do!  We want to hang out with people who enjoy fabrics, sewing, and learning about our quilt hobby.  Where do you find your quilting community?

An interview with Iris Karp from Attached, Inc., aka Mistyfuse

Last week I was at the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival.  This was my first time at this regional guild show and it was a blast!  Also vending at this show was Iris Karp, the owner of Attached, Inc, the home of Mistyfuse.  I was able to get a way on Saturday afternoon to interview Iris about Mistyfuse, and two new products that I will be offering in my Website Store.  Iris has invented Bunny Paper and is now packaging MistyQs, fat quarter size precut Mistyfuse sheets to fuse your fat quarters of fabric!

"Text It" Blog Hop

Text It by Sherri Noel

My friend Sherri Noel has just published a new book, "Text It".  Sherri and I have been in the same quilt guild for years  and have so much in common as quilt designers.  When she asked me to make a quilt from her new book and blog about it, I knew I was going to make the "1 Sheep" quilt!  After reading all about "Counting Sheep", tell me the one thing that helps you relax before bed in a comment below to enter the give-away!  Tag a friend in the comment for an extra chance to win!

My Magical Garden Printed Pattern

My Magical Garden cover

Over the past nine months over 275 of our customers and students have been participating in a Block of the Month quilt program online to learn to use their Leaves Galore and Hearts and More templates. On Friday I posted the final installment of our Block of the Month pattern on my website.  I can not wait to see the progress of my students and to start posting photos of the finished quilts!
