Why Fabric Preparation Matters

FAQ Fabric Preparation:

Q: Should I wash fabrics before making a quilt?

A:  Absolutely. I am a huge proponent of washing all fabrics in your quilt. I highly recommend that you wash your fabric first before putting all the time and effort into making a fused applique quilt.

Why? Read all about it below. Watch my FaceBook Live video about fabric preparation for more detailed information and to see it with bleeding problems with your own eyes!

Let's do a jig...a Hex-a-ma-jig!

One of my favorite types of quilts is a pieced quilt with applique accents. It doesn't take much applique to make a project special!  Today's tip is about using the Hex-a-ma-jig ruler to make a half hexie background for the Season's Greetings Wall Quilt.  I taught this class yesterday and I found out some really cool things about using the Hex-a-ma-jig ruler!

Hearts and Leaves Grace True Grips are Here!

The Grace Company and Sue Pelland Designs have teamed up to to make a new style of Grace True Grips.  I have been using Grace True Grips for many years, I have never found a better product for keeping rulers from slipping when rotary cutting.  Cutting curves can be tricky at first, and slipping is a major problem without the true grips.  I use them on all my Leaves Galore and Hearts and More templates to keep the tools secure when I am cutting around the curves.

Running out of elastic, and still making masks for family and friends...

I promised myself I was not going to get sucked in to the MASK MAKING YOUTUBE VIDEO FRENZY!  Every designer and her brother has put out their own YouTube video about making the perfect mask...and I have wasted enough time watching them that I could have made a hundred more masks!

Getting Ready to a Get-Away or Retreat

Guild retreats can be loads of fun. They are a great way to get to know quilters in your guild, or go with a group of strangers and meet a new friend or two.

Retreat etiquette:

Not everyone likes to sew to music, so if you bring your own music, please use headphones.

If you need to make a personal call, there should be a lobby or other private place to take or make a call.
